Local SEO Strategist

  • On-site, Remote, Hybrid
    • Indianapolis, Indiana, United States
  • $70,000 - $80,000 per year
  • Marketing Operations

Job description

In a Nutshell

Valve+Meter is growing, and we’re looking for a results-driven Local SEO Strategist to join our performance-focused marketing team. This is a hands-on role responsible for driving visibility and leads through local organic search. You’ll develop and execute comprehensive SEO strategies, oversee campaign implementation, and own the outcomes for a portfolio of clients—primarily in high-intent, B2C service industries.

We have offices in Indianapolis, Indiana and Denver, Colorado, but we are open to US-based candidates who prefer to work remotely. (We don’t currently operate in all 50 states, but we’d love to chat.) You will be expected to travel to Indianapolis for orientation and training your first week, and also at least two times per year for all team events.

Success in this role means consistently delivering high-quality SEO roadmaps, executing on 90-day plans, and ensuring every client sees continuous, measurable growth in map pack rankings, local traffic, and conversions.

Local SEO Strategists are the quarterbacks of our local campaigns. You’ll lead strategy, prioritize actions based on impact and scope, guide cross-functional teams, and use data to constantly evolve your approach. You don’t just “do SEO”—you drive business performance.

Why is this role important for Valve+Meter’s work?

Valve+Meter’s mission is rooted in performance and accountability. Our clients hire us to produce measurable outcomes—not just marketing activity. In local markets, that means dominating Google’s map pack and organic results to generate phone calls, form submissions, and revenue.

This role is essential in crafting and executing those plans. You’ll work closely with strategists, developers, content creators, and account managers to transform insights into impact. You’ll also help innovate how we deliver local SEO at scale—finding smarter ways to drive more results with less waste.

You should have a passion for the digital landscape, a bias for action, and a deep understanding of what moves the needle in local search. Our best strategists think like consultants, write like analysts, and act like owners.

Relevant Capabilities

Our Ideal Candidate should be able to:

  • Develop and execute strategic local SEO roadmaps.  Create high-impact ThinkFirst strategies that define each client’s local SEO roadmap. Diagnose technical issues, competitive gaps, and content opportunities to build a prioritized action plan aligned with business goals and market dynamics.

  • Execute and evolve 90-Day SEO plans. Translate strategy into action through recurring 90-day plans that build momentum over time. Prioritize and implement tasks across content, technical, on-page, GBP, and off-page SEO—ensuring each cycle drives measurable growth in visibility, traffic, and leads.

  • Manage a portfolio of clients. Deliver tailored local SEO strategies aligned to each client’s business goals, geography, and competitive landscape.

  • Own visibility in map pack and organic rankings. Prioritize actions that will help clients win top 3 rankings for their highest-value keywords and services.

  • Publish impactful geo-targeted content. Collaborate with content and design to ensure every blog, service page, or city page is purposeful and optimized.

  • Fully optimize and manage Google Business Profiles. Execute and enhance GBP strategy through services, posts, photos, Q&A, and more.

  • Execute hands-on SEO work. This includes citations, review management, schema markup, internal linking, and basic technical optimizations.

  • Guide off-page authority building. Recommend and support efforts around citations, tiered backlinks, guest posts, and cloud-based entity signals.

  • Monitor technical performance. Conduct audits, surface issues, and partner with dev and web teams to implement solutions.

  • Report and communicate outcomes. Analyze performance, translate data into insights, and participate in Growth Talks with clients.

  • Work cross-functionally. Coordinate with paid media, content, and analytics teams to align SEO strategies with broader campaign goals.

  • Continuously improve your craft. Stay current with trends, algorithm updates, and advanced local SEO tactics—then bring them into our playbooks.

What to Expect

When considering a new position, it is essential to understand what to expect from your day-to-day workflow and contribution expectations. At Valve+Meter, each subject matter expert has 5-7 key things they are primarily responsible for. The 5-7 things for this position encompass:

  • Manage a book of clients and develop a personalized SEO strategy to help increase their online visibility in search engines

  • Prioritize opportunities for each client by cost, impact, and difficulty that will provide each client the most bang for the buck. Create 90-day plans to execute on those opportunities.

  • Work cross-departmentally to ensure quarterly SEO campaigns–including GBP, on-page, content, off-page, citations, review management, and more–are executed on time. This is not a project manager role – we expect that you are doing hands-on SEO work.

  • Compile data for our account managers to report the results of your campaigns.

  • Constantly audit client websites and campaign results to surface issues or areas for improvement.
